A Summer Under the Trees

This weekend I was photographing a lovely wedding ceremony in Georgia under a beautiful oak tree. It was perfect in every way imaginable. The light was glowing on the river and the wind was blowing the moss covered branches. The bride looked so beautiful and in the air there was just… joy.

When she read her vows to her husband, she finished by saying, “Most importantly, I will never stop fighting for our marriage.”

The breath kind of caught in my chest and I just marveled for a moment… because that is exactly what it takes. Sometimes you have to fight for each other. You have to hold on and refuse to let go. Marriage isn’t easy and it isn’t perfect, but it’s real and so worth fighting for. Choosing to share your whole life with someone is the most honest and terrifying commitment you’ll ever make. It takes bravery and tremendous faith. I believe it is also the most rewarding and beautiful thing on this Earth.

Moments like those are humbling. They make me appreciate what I do, and more importantly, they make me appreciate what I have.

Knowing love is a privilege.
